HELP COMBAT ONLINE PIRACY
While there are many websites where consumers can legally view streamed content, there are many illegal streaming sites where operators will solicit users to provide payment to purchase "subscriptions" or "memberships" or otherwise pay for illegal content. These sites often feature advertisements for legitimate products or services alongside illegal streaming of unauthorized movie and television content. They may use trademarks and cover art of well-known studios and distribution companies or provide a plot summary of a movie or a list of the cast of characters. Website operators of such illegal sites purposely use these techniques to fool consumers into believing that their websites are legal. Many of these sites have connections to organized crime groups which have been linked to other crimes including child pornography, human trafficking and terrorism.
The following link to the IATSE website contains lists of legal content sites for downloading/streaming. Please consult this list to ensure you are obtaining online content from a legal source, and please distribute the list to your members.

Boyd joins CMPA-BC (formerly CFTPA)
Gigi Boyd has been named VP of industrial relations in the B.C. office of the CMPA (nee CFTPA).
Boyd is an active producer/production manager, with credits such as Exes and Ohs, The Guard, Elijah, Godiva's and Cold Squad to her credit. Previously, she also served as manager of business affairs and then director of the Television Unit at Telefilm Canada in the Western Office, and was on the board at the DGC-BC and the Shaw Rocket Fund. Boyd takes her place at the CMPA effective July 19.

Explaining the decision to postpone the event, Actors’ Fund Golf Committee Chair Maria Topalovich said “There has been tremendous support for a tournament for the Actors' Fund in British Columbia. However, timing is everything, and with a very heavy BC production schedule launching in September, our colleagues in the BC film and television production industry have asked that we postpone the event to ensure broader participation in this important fundraising event. We look forward to announcing a new date shortly.”
